PRADHIKAR, an organization working for animal rights, welfare and biodiversity conservation at Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU), has undertaken the second phase of deworming program to provide anthelmintics to more than 140 dogs and 6 cats in and around the university.
On Friday (December 22), at 9 am, the program was initiated in front of the Teacher-Student Center (TSC) of the university. Subsequently, divided into four teams, the program was carried out in different areas, including university campus, Alurtol Road, Sonar Bangla Road, and Nayabazar. At this time, 2 kg of chicken, 1 kg lentils and 8 kg of rice were provided along with anthelmintics to be mixed with khichuri.

The vice-president Abdullah Al Mamun said, “We, Pradhikarian, work for the protection of animal rights, welfare and environmental sustainability. Alongside this, we are perpetually conscious of public health. We all are individual ‘One Health Fighters.’ As ‘One Health Fighters,’ we undertake various initiatives anually such as rabies vaccination and deworming.
This year, we successfully completed the “Deworming Program” in two phases. On December 8th, Friday, in the first phase, we distributed food and anthelmintics to approximately 107 dogs in and around Sylhet Agricultural University. Following the protocol of deworming provision, today, 14 days later, in the second phase, we provided food and Anthelmintics to 140 dogs and 6 cats.
We are delighted that on December 22nd, in the northern hemisphere, we have distributed the huge amount of food and anthelmintics on the smallest day, benefiting the highest number of stray animals free of charge.
The “Deworming Distribution Program” is an extremely important initiative for us. Some parasitic diseases exist that spread from dogs and cats to humans such as roundworms, hookworms, etc. These are collectively referred to as zoonotic diseases. Regular deworming of dogs and cats is essential to prevent the spread of these zoonotic diseases to humans. Therefore, we consistently uphold this program with utmost importance every year.
As One Health Fighters, our commitment to this program will remain unwavering. We hope that the general public will be inspired by our initiative, become more aware, regularly consume Anthelmintics , and contribute to the health protection of both themselves and the surrounding animals.”
