The 10th Executive Committee of Pradhikar, the organization of Sylhet Agricultural University (SAU) dedicated to animal rights and biodiversity conservation, has been announced.
The newly selected President of the committee is Md. Jihad Ahammed, a fourth-year student of the Faculty of Veterinary, Animal and Biomedical Sciences, and Md. Ishaq Hasib, also a fourth-year student of the same faculty, selected as the General Secretary.
The announcement was made on Monday (December 30) at 5:00 PM during a “Committee Handover Ceremony-2024” held at the third-floor conference room of the Faculty of Fisheries building. A total of 42 members were named to the new committee. During the event, crest and honorary certificates were presented to the outgoing committee members in recognition of their contributions.
The event was moderated by Sigma Zaman, Assistant Treasurer of the outgoing committee, while former President Md. Mahadi Hasan reviewed the committee’s previous activities. Outgoing senior leaders reminisced long journey with PRADHIKAR and provided valuable guidance for future endeavors.Vice-President Abdullah Al Mamun suggested all PRADHIKARIAN to achieve organisational skills through true PRADHIKAR activity following PRADHIKAR constitution.
The ceremony was presided over by outgoing President Md. Mahadi Hasan and attended by notable guests, including the university’s first Treasurer Prof. Dr. A.T.M Mahbub-E-Elahi, Director of the Student Counseling and Guidance Office Prof. Dr. Md. Emdadul Haque, and Prodhikar’s advisory board members Prof. Dr. Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Khan, Prof. Dr. Animesh Chandra Roy, and Assistant Professor Dr. Masud Parvez. Members of the outgoing committee and other Prodhikar members were also present.
Speaking on behalf of the new committee, General Secretary Md. Ishaq Hasib highlighted the importance of protecting animal rights not only as a humanitarian responsibility but also for safeguarding the environment and the future of the next generation. He emphasized that the organization is actively involved in raising awareness about conservation, preventing illegal wildlife trafficking, and working alongside local communities to protect animal habitats. “Biodiversity is the cornerstone of ecological balance,” he said, warning that failure to protect it would result in environmental disasters. Prodhikar is committed to strengthening the movement to preserve biodiversity by ensuring public participation.
Pradhikar, established on June 5, 2012, with the slogan “Save Animals, Save the Planet,” has been working successfully to protect animal rights in the Sylhet region since its inception. Over the years, the organization has gained widespread recognition for its significant contributions to animal rights and biodiversity conservation.
